Electric Surfboard Buying Guide (2026)Veltide

Buying your first electric surfboard is a big step. This 2026 starter guide walks through the specs that actually matter, how to match a board to your ability, and the total cost of ownership so there are no surprises.

Specs that matter most

  • Top speed — 45–60 km/h is plenty for most riders.
  • Ride time — look for 60–90 minutes per battery.
  • Board material — blow-molded, EPP foam or ABS each ride differently.
  • Weight — lighter boards are far easier to launch solo.
  • Battery — capacity (kWh), charge time and cycle life.

Match the board to your skill

Beginners should favour a stable, lighter board with a forgiving power curve, such as the EPP-foam EP01. Confident riders who want carbon-look speed will prefer the SF01. If you would rather sit than stand, a water scooter format like the SF01-M is a comfortable entry.

Total cost of ownership

The board price is only part of the picture. Budget for at least one spare battery, a protective cover and occasional consumables. Electric boards have far lower running costs than petrol jetboards — no fuel, fewer moving parts and minimal servicing.
